Kindred Hollow

Kindred Hollow key art. Two hooded figures stand on a floating slab of rock, one holding a lit lantern, before a ringed planet and a violet galaxy. The silver Kindred Hollow wordmark sits above them.

A co-op action roguelike. Play solo or online with up to 3 friends.

The game so far

Kindred Hollow is a third-person action roguelike with RPG depth, played solo or online with up to 3 friends. You fight a horde zone by zone and build your character with loot, class abilities and a skill tree.

Your basic attack fires on its own at whatever you look at. You aim with the camera. Alone, dying ends the run. In co-op you stay down until a boss kill brings you back.

The game is in early development and has no release date yet. Early access is a small playtest group, for people who want to play early and say what they think. Apply below.

What's in the game now

  • Zones and bosses

A run is five zones. Killing enemies earns XP, and some drop gear. Each zone has an altar. Light it and stay in its ring while it charges, and the boss comes out. Beat the boss and a portal takes you to a small island to heal and shop.

  • The skill tree

Every level gives you one point to spend in a skill tree of nearly 600 nodes. Each class starts in a different part of it.

A painted spiral of glowing star nodes, the shape of the game's skill tree.

  • A tree for each class

Each class also has a small tree of its own, with upgrades only that class can use. You only get enough points to fill half of it.

A painted ring of violet star nodes around a glowing gold core, the shape of a class’s own tree.
  • Endless mode

After you win, you can keep going. The zones loop and the enemies keep getting tougher. Past level 50 you still earn small stat points.

  • Solo or co-op

The whole game works solo. You can also play online with up to 3 friends. Host a game to get a code, and your friends join with it. With two or more players, bosses add a move that needs teamwork.

Classes

Some of the classes in the current build.

  • The Spellcaster, a hooded mage in a starry navy robe, fire and frost curling around one hand.

    Spellcaster

Throws orbs that burst on impact. Your first pick of fire, frost or storm in the skill tree sets your element.

Abilities Frost Nova, Chain Lightning, Warsong

  • The Blade Dancer, a hooded figure in a grey-green cloak, glowing teal blades circling them.

    Blade Dancer

Windswept daggers that bleed, and seek the next foe on their own.

    Abilities Blade Flurry, Recall, Sever

  • The Slammer, a bearded warrior in a horned helm with a huge axe over one shoulder.

    Slammer

A heavy axe, swung wide. Spin, leap and rage.

    Abilities Whirlwind, Heroic Leap, Berserk

  • The Artisan, a hooded woman in a leather apron and bandoliers, a ring of golden spikes behind her.

    Artisan

Fires needles out on every side at once. Turn to aim the spread.

Abilities Needle Turret, Branding Needles, Masterwork Overcharge

  • The Warden, a hooded guardian in grey stone armour holding a tattered banner, a gold ring of light at its feet.

    Warden

A support class. Your aura protects your friends and makes them hit harder. Not meant for solo play.

    Abilities Overcharge, Convocation, Last Stand

  • The Collapsar, a young man in a high-collared violet robe, a small black hole turning above one hand.

    Collapsar

The well is the weapon. Gather, amplify, collapse. A support at heart, best in a party.

Abilities Gravity Well, Singularity Mark, Supermassive

The zones

Each zone is harder than the last. After you win, you can loop forever (or as long as you can live).

  • Zone 1: floating slate islands and stone bridges under a huge violet spiral galaxy. Two small heroes look out from a ledge.
    Zone 1
  • Zone 2: rust-orange mesas and drifting dust under burning amber clouds and a small orange sun. Two small heroes look out from a ledge.
    Zone 2
  • Zone 3: pale ash dunes and broken stone ruins under a cold silver sky. Two small heroes look out from a ledge.
    Zone 3
  • Zone 4: black basalt and smouldering ash under an enormous cracked molten planet. Two small heroes look out from a ledge.
    Zone 4
  • Zone 5: black rock and rivers of embers under a huge crimson nebula with a blinding white core. Two small heroes look out from a ledge.
    Zone 5

Early boss designs

Each zone ends with a big fight, and each one has its own mechanics.

  • The Collapsar, a huge cracked violet orb leaking light, looming over the zone 1 sky.
The Collapsar. The zone 1 boss.
  • The Pulsar, a towering verdigris colossus with a glowing cage in its chest.
The Pulsar. The zone 2 boss.
  • The zone 3 boss, a towering knight in black spiked armour with a crown of crystal shards.
